For years I’ve always practiced the concert-going code that you never wear a concert shirt of the same band that you are seeing…my only exception is when I’m seeing beginning local bands. For me, having a cool band shirt, and seeing someone else with a cool concert shirt is a great conversation starter. If my rule of wearing a band of similar genre is followed, I learn about new bands all the time. My other rule of wearing the complete opposite type of band leads to real fun conversations. ( wearing a Cro-Mags shirt to a Public Enemy show a few years back lead to an awesome music talk and a new, great friend).
In ’89, after several years of constant concert attending, I started noticing a common trend… I was seeing the same band and brand t-shirts all the time… Made me take a deeper look into all of the money I invested in my concert wardrobe. Now, it’s late 2013 and most of the shirts I remember seeing almost 25 years are still showing up at all sorts of shows, worn by concert goers of all ages. Here is a top ten list of artists and their most popular shirt seen , and a top five brand list.
